Our Journey has been long and full of triumphs and tribulations. Much time has past since my first days of picking up a camera, or wielding a band saw, modeling my first block of clay, crafting my first flute, pipe, and yes time in venues such as Art Galleries… yes many many years have passed. Lately it seems as though time is flying by like the speed of a bullet train.
Many of you who have followed my work over the years know that my home originated in Coronado, California. Many moves over the years led my family to Arizona and then Wyoming. We spent almost 17 years in Jackson Hole Wyoming before we moved to where we are now which is in Afton, Wyoming… the south end of the beautiful Star Valley.
Peyton and I will have been married for 42 years in a few months. In all this time I was never satisfied with placing our art into businesses that we had little control over. Some venues were great in sharing our art, while other not so much. To keep this to a very short version of a long story, I will not bore you with fine details. Let just say at this late stage of our lives we have opted for somewhat of a new beginning.
What I mean by that is that, just this past Summer Peyton and I made the decision to give this latter part of our journey as artists, parents, mentors and now grandparents a new twist. Something we have never really done and that was to open our very first retail location. We pondered what would it even look like. We have so many different things we do, most of which is in the field of the arts and yes even fashion. In addition it had to be fun. And so Buckin Bees was born. It was to become an eclectic mix of fun, art and fashion. The fun is the electric bike component, the art will include all the mediums I have worked in and the fashion part, well it is Peyton’s idea of Western flavored Couture.
Meet our Mascot… he is our concept of the Buckin Bee. We love honey, love bees, and we love our natural surrounding here in Western Wyoming. These little guys never stop working and seem to always hang out around us and our horses when outdoors. Occasionally they even provoke a buck or two out of our equine friends. We hope you will find our version of the Wyoming Cowboy bee as intriguing and fun as we have had in creating them. Don’t be surprised to meet other iterations of our new friends… even if they only exist in our minds. As for Buckin Bees, come visit our new shop located off HWY 89 in Afton, inside the Kodiak Mountain Resort. You just may find something worth taking home.
