Port Orford Cedar

Port Orford Cedar D @440Hz

Simple yet elegant six hole Port Orford Cedar flute.  Hand crafted and voice by Wyoming  flute artist Timothy Jennings.  True Old Growth Port Orford Cedar continues to be rare and hard to find.  We currently have a fairly nice stock of this lumber if a flute such as this interests you.

This is a 1″ inch bore flute with a longer Slow Air Chamber and block giving this flute an overall longer aesthetic.  Both Totem Rails and the Totem (fetish)  were crafted from river reclaimed Sapodilla.

Unique to this flute is the hand cut Elk Antler cabochon that was crafted from Wyoming harvested elk and is bezel set in Sterling Silver and inlaid into the body of the flute.  Over all this was a very nice commissioned flute.

If you would like to inquire about a flute like this being made for you please reach out to Tim Jennings via email (sales@jacksonholetim.com) or give him a call (307) 690-0427.

Construction Upgrades

New Journey Begins

Upgrade your Commissioned flute or add accents to one of our already crafted flutes. Most of my customers who buy a flute from our shop would prefer something a little more unique than just a nice flute. For some just adding a small leather accent is enough while others request something more individualized that holds a special meaning to them.

Hand Made Cabochons

On of my favorite accent to add to a custom flute is a hand crafted cabochon. Personally I like the looks of a bezel set piece as it helps both define the edges of the stone selected as well as helping the cabochon pop off the flute. No two flutes or cabochons are the same and each one is handcrafted individually in our shop right here in Wyoming.

Some of our favorite stones to work with are Picture Jasper, Wyoming Black Jade, Wyoming Harvested Elk Antler, Hand quarried Sacred Catlinite (Pipestone) and other unique stones we come across. These stones can be bezel set in Sterling Silver and then set into the flute or if preferred no bezel at all.

These are just some of the images of flutes with cabochons and some of the Cabochons themselves. Accents in addition to the inlaid cabs are hand mades beads, stands and Bison leather accents. Customizing a flute for just you is a very special journey. The satisfaction of owning a one of a kind Jackson Hole Tim Flute, one that plays beautifully and at the same time becomes a beautiful accent piece to your home or office decor is a journey worth taking.

New Construction

Alaskan Yellow Cedar Large Bore Flute Ready for Glue-up

This is a brand new flute being built from the ground up. This flute is being crafted from Old Growth Alaskan Yellow Cedar and will feature Sapodilla Totem rails and fetish. The Fetish is to be determined at a future date. This will be a fairly large bodied flute that features a 1 1/8″ bore. More than likely this will be tuned in the Key of C#, D, D#, E.

Sapodilla Totem Rails and Sapodilla Mustang Fetish

Updates for this flute will be posted and a brand new page for this flute will be added to our website in the coming days. We are ready for glue-up so the shaping should begin fairly soon, right after we add the totem rails, select playing hole placement and shape away. This is going to be an beautiful flute both to look at and play.

If you are interested in securing this flute before it is completed reach out to us by phone, (307) 690-0427 or shoot us an email to “timjen333@gmail.com”. It’s going to be a very nice flute.

Construction Update

This is an update to an earlier post from last week. This Alaskan Yellow Cedar Flute featuring a Black Walnut inlaid Cutting Edge and Black Walnut Totem rails is just about ready to enter the finishing stages as the shaping process is complete. This flute has been tuned and it is NOT in the F or G keys as mentioned in earlier post.

Black Walnut Whimsical Eagle Fetish and Totem Rails

My error earlier was that this was a 7/8″ bore flute when actually this is a 1″ Bore flute. It has been tuned to the Key of D# which is where it seems to want to be. NEW to this flute is a brand new fetish design, our Whimsical Eagle. This Eagle is crafted from the same Black Walnut as the inlay and Totem Rails and features a chimney around the sound hole. This is a larger flute body with an overall length of 27 1/4″ inches. Finish is to be natural and right now plans are to be High Gloss.

Time to Make Changes

There is still time to make a change in the finish. It could be finished in SATIN, SEMI-GLOSS , or High Gloss. If you wanted to add something special such as a custom cabochon in something like Sacred Pipestone or maybe a custom Wyoming Elk Antler like the one below there is still time.

Another Alaskan Cedar Flute Ready For A Home

Alaskan Yellow Cedar Flute Ready To Go

Just completed this Alaskan Yellow Cedar flute is ready to ship.  Six hole flute tuned to D #440Hz.  This has been one of my most popular designs, that being a 1 inch bore flute with my whimsical Wyoming Mustang fetish.

A larger flute by design but yet still very comfortable to play.  The Mustang fetish and the Totem Rails are both crafted from Sapodilla which has a wonderfully warm tone and the contrast is very regal.  This flute ships with no bling accents but if wanted a hand crafted cabochon make a nice addition.

Ready to purchase at $365.00 plus shipping.  For more information and how to order click here.

Alaskan Yellow Ceder Flute in Acrylic Red

Another commissioned flute finished early this year found a home in Montana.  This Alaskan Yellow Cedar flute was finished in Acrylic Red and features maple totem rails and maple Mustang fetish.  Like it’s twin completed last year, it was tuned to G @432 Hz.  A very nice looking and playing flute.

I personally am excited that it’s new owner Nakoa Heavyrunner from Poplar Montana.  Nakoa is one of the best flute player I personally know.  He is well known in Indian Country as an accomplished Pow Wow singer and he and his brother Donavan appear on RezKast Radio.  Check them out early mornings.

I am hoping Nakoa will be kind enough to pass some recordings our way so we can share with the world his amazing flute playing talents.  Enjoy Nakoa Heavyrunner…

If a flute similar to this one is of interest please reach out to Wyoming Artist Tim Jennings via email (sales@jacksonholetim.com) or give him a call (307) 690-0427.

Texas Juniper Flute Ready for A Home

TEXAS JUNIPER WITH MUSTANG FETISH

Check out this bad boy… This 1″ inch bore six hole flute is crafted from clear Texas Juniper.  This image really does not do this flute body justice.  I have always loved the color ranges in a nice piece of juniper and this one is no exception.

This flute features Maple Totem Rails and scheduled to have my Mustang Fetish.  Still time to choose a different species for the Mustang but Maple will look real nice.  Also add a hand made cabochon to make this flute completely yours.

Tuned to E @432Hz this flute as a nice deeper voice and sounds great.  Final shaping and tuning is complete and I an now in the finishing stages.  The finish will be a high gloss finish and accented with our hand cut Bison lace.

Port Orford Cedar Flute Finds Home in California

This is one of my favorite flutes I have made this year.  I have posted information about this flute before offering what I consider to be the best flute of 2020 so far.  Crafted from Old Growth Port Orford Cedar this large bore flute feature Sapodilla Totem Rail and my Mustang Fetish also made from Sapodilla.

Highlights of this flute was the addition of a hand cut Wyoming harvested Elk Antler cabochon set in Sterling Silver.  The 1″ inch bore of this flute gives it a deeper voice tuned to D @440 Hz.  Leather accents is our Wyoming handcut Bison lace.  Nothing fancy just a really nice instrument.  Simple Elegance achieved!

The new owner of this flute lives in Riverside, California and it is scheduled to ship late this week.  I will miss this flute in my shop!  As with all of the flutes I make I hope this flute bring them years of personal enjoyment.

If you like this flute as I do please visit the link below as there is a sister flute to this only crafted from Alaskan Yellow Cedar but features the same totem rail design and Mustang fetish.  If you think you might like to peak then CLICK HERE for more information on the sister flute available.
