Nothing goes to waste! No matter how careful we are when we lay out our flute blanks we always end up with trim pieces that are not going to be used for flute making. Some of these trims you will find on post our website as single boards for purchase while other we repurpose into one of our fun Kitchen Utensils we make here by hand.
A couple of years ago we started our JHT Kitchen line of hand crafted wooden utensils. Last year we flat out sold out of what we had in stock as we are limited to what we are able to craft. Well slowly I am crafting more of these fun fully functional art pieces and we have some available now.
NEW SPOON DESIGN
Most all of our kitchen utensils are made from our Old Growth Alaskan Yellow Cedar stockpile. AYC is simply one of the best woods for these utensils and AYC is awesome around water. The spoon shown above, you would think would have been one of the first I made but I finally got around to crafting this for our own kitchen. A simple ergonomically designed wooden spoon that can be used for so much over the stove.
New Paddle Spatula Adds Functionality
Another fairly new add to our utensil is this Medium Paddle Spatula. Easy to use utensil that has a narrow paddle which makes it easy to get into wide mouth jars and such. Saute with it, simply stirring, stir fry veggies and more. Kind of a fun piece.
Use Wood NOT Plastic
As if our American Diet is not bad enough for our health. Just about everything you find for use in the kitchen is made overseas and out of plastics. Some better than others. Wood on the other hand is timeless, healthy and old school alternative. More and more families are purchasing high quality wooden made utensils for cooking in their kitchen. The only thing we add other than our labor is a Pure Food-Grade mineral oil before we ship.
Hand Crafted with Functionality in mind
Like everything we make in our shop right here in Afton Wyoming. Like our flute, ALL of the JHT Utensils are hand crafted individually and NO TWO are the same. Easy to use, easy to care for and great for all your stove top needs. All though the price points are a bit higher than production made pieces if you take care of them they will last you for many years of fun healthy cooking.
NEW to JHT Kitchen is this Super sharp VG-10 Japanese stainless steel knife is clad with 67-layer Damascus dragon pattern on both sides (33 Layers on each side). Design increases toughness, improves stain resistance, and prolongs knife life. Mirror polished stainless steel bolster and butt end design have made this knife even better.
The perfect weight balanced full length handle is made in our shop of River Reclaimed Sappodilla which is durable, non-slip, easy to clean, waterproof, comfortable, and beautiful.
Every Zhen Premium knife comes with its own hand crafted gift box or storage box. The most important attribute for a chef’s knife is its ability to be sharpened and stay sharp. The VG-10 stainless steel from Japan is heat treated to a hardness of HRC 60-62.
All Zhen knives have a traditional western double bevel edge.
Available for Back Order! All back orders have the option to choose their species of wood for your handle. Price Point could be different depending on species selected.
Other knives available… No two are the same as each one is hand crafted by Wyoming Artist Tim Jennings. Email us at “SALES@JACKSONHOLETIM.COM” and put “CUSTOM KNIFE” in the subject line.
A customer just sent me this photo this morning of them making breakfast. From Scottsdale, Arizona Kirk recently received his order of 2 Flat Spatulas and one medium Spoon. It always warms our hearts when customers share with us how they use our Functional Art…
Most of you know jacksonholetim.com as primarily an artist website with a focus on Native American Style flutes and their parts as well as hand crafted pipes and local photography. Well nothing is changing there but we are adding a new hand crafted product line for consideration.
The Back Story
Those who know me know that I have three children ages ranging from 18 – 34 years of age. Our son Brock is a very accomplished Chef as well as a musician. Brock has really grown into an exception chef with lots of experience both in the home and in restaurants. His younger sister Blaire although not a working chef is also very much one in her own right. What this means is Peyton and eat really well when they come to visit.
The journey that led to the crafting of a line of kitchen utensils was one of desire to find a better quality type of wooden cooking utensils that Brock wanted in his kitchen and a need to find purpose to all of the exceptional Old Growth Alaskan Yellow Cedar I use in many of my flute projects but so much for various reasons cannot be used in flute making. I do not waste a single board.
Truly Hand Crafted One of A Kind
So it seemed natural to makes some utensils for Brock and Blaire to use. Then is dawned on me that people might like to have some of these as well. We sat down and came up with a small line of hand crafted utensils which will be rolled out in the coming weeks, a line of functional yet durable utensils. For me though I am NOT about production pieces… I wanted to make these by hand as crazy as it sounds.
So let it be clear that every single utensil whether in inventory or ordered by a customer each one is fully hand crafted by me, in the USA, in the state of Wyoming. Unlikely you will find any wooden kitchen utensil so unique and yet functional made not with waste but premium quality USA Sourced materials. I truly put my own heart and soul into every piece I make whether it be a flute, pipe, wooden utensil, jewelry piece… everything that l make is part of my art working in multiple mediums.
Until I am able to catch up on exiting orders and build some small inventory to make available on this website send me a message of what you might want below and I will let you know costs and estimated time for delivery. These are really cool even if I do make them… lol
